ADDICTION

Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences. People with addiction (severe substance use disorder) have an intense focus on using a certain substance(s), such as alcohol or drugs, to the point that it takes over their life. They keep using alcohol or a drug even when they know it will cause problems. In-Country Medicare has addiction reversal programs using functional methods and protocols.

General signs of addiction are lack of control, or inability to stay away from a substance or certain behaviours, decreased socialization, like abandoning commitments or ignoring relationships, ignoring risk factors, like sharing needles despite potential consequences.
